He was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter. He was influenced by other artists like Jean Francois Millet through his realistic work. He used bold colors in his work and painted with loose brushstrokes that created an atmospheric feel to his paintings. He had a big influence in Art even though he died at a young age from a gunshot wound, which was said to be done by himself due to his mental illnesses. He was an artist from when he was a child, although he mostly did drawings, which then later led to painting in his twenties.
