Marc Chagall was a Russian-born artist who is considered an early modernist. Stylistically, his work most resembles Cubism, but he was also influenced by and associated with Surrealism, Expressionism, and Fauvism, making him difficult to categorize. He was a pioneer of modernism and a significant Jewish artist in a time when Jews were harshly persecuted.
