Marcus Rothkowitz, or more commonly known as Mark Rothko, is a Russian-American painter. While he is categorized as part of Abstract Expressionism, Rothko was vocally against the label arguing that his work was not a self-expression but rather something that everyone should relate to through meditative viewing. His style is known as "color field painting" and is categorized by simple compositions using large fields of colors.
